This just a short blog post to let everybody know that we have decided to tweak our business identity.
Our goal is to streamline our business branding and remove any confusion around who and what we are.
The beginning
When we launched this website we were part of a group of like minded Scottish shellfish growers. We formed The Native Oyster & Shellfish Company Ltd together due to our joint involvement in the Glenmorangie DEEP project. We wanted to create a unique aquaculture company that placed the Native European Flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) at the heart of its business.
For various reasons the other growers decided they wished to pursue other opportunities and as a result, our farm - Maorach Beag, became the backbone of the business.
Our initial thought was that we would maintain a spilt operation where our farm would continue to operate as Maorach Beag, and the web portal, this site, would sell our oysters under the The Native Oyster & Shellfish Company brand.
Born again
The bulk of our restoration work is operated under the banner of the farm, that is Maorach Beag. Over time we have become aware that this has caused some confusion for our customers as there is something of an identity clash.
In addition, we are very proud of our heritage and language, and were always slightly uncomfortable that our Gaelic business name had been obscured by the new holding company. It felt a bit like we had lost something.
As such, we have decided to rebalance the business, and from this point on we shall be going back to our roots and operating as just Maorach Beag.
Business as usual
For all of that, nothing has really changed. Our goals are the same and we remain passionate advocates of Native oyster restoration. And of course our lovely oysters are just the same as they have always been!
